have a look at historical weather for the area. While it can snow at any time in Tassie’s mountains, you could still have great weather in March even if is a little chillier. Bring warm gear and pack an extra day of food. You can always hole up at one of the huts to wait it out if it’s really bad. There are always lots of walkers on the track so you’ll be able to follow other people’s tracks or walk with another group if you get into trouble.

Hi Taryn, Just saw this now. I ended up booking Routeburn track in NZ in Feb next year. I wanted to do OT next year too, so I had to book at the end of March. Now I’m a bit scared of snow storms. Any tips?

Any easy to moderate three day trip will help get you ready for the OT. Just pick something close to you. If possible try to go during the winter months to help you get ready for Tasmania’s fickle weather.

I plan on doing the overland track, but I haven’t done a multi day hike before. What is a good one to start with in Australia?
